Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
