Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
