Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
