Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest players in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
